Apple iPhone 5 Debut Might Not Happen Until Mid-Fall

There are conflicting reports on when Apple is going to introduce its next-generation smartphone. On Friday, a report indicated that the iPhone 5 was going to be unveiled the first week of September, but a new report disputes that.

The Loop, citing inside sources, says that there is no truth to Friday's report that Apple has a media event scheduled for September 7. Therefore, the company won't be unveiling the iPhone 5 in that day. 

TiPb weighed in with the assertion that Apple's next smartphone is going to be released on Friday, October 7.  If this is correct, then there will likely be some kind of press event a week or so before then to announce it.

These are just the latest in a long series of unconfirmed reports on when the next-generation iPhone is going to be released, most of which say it will be in September but a few point to October. All of this guesswork and hearsay is necessary because Apple itself has kept mum about when its going to unveil its next-generation handset.

What to Expect from the Next iPhone

Some inside sources have indicated that Apple is actually going to release two smartphones this fall, not just one. The iPhone 5 will supposedly have a slightly larger display than the current model, a faster dual-core processor, and an 8-megapixel camera.

The iPhone 4S, on the other hand, is allegedly going to be just like Apple's current smartphone but with a faster processor. This will be a lower-cost option, possibly targeting the pre-paid market.
